There's a path I sometimes walk
through the forest and the snow
when the wolf isn't watching
and the giant doesn't know
I slip my leash and steal a torch
through the wilderness I go
I lost my wings somewhere below –
down by the skerries – long ago
that's where my heart became my shame
a place where humans never go
still, I haunt that place to feel him –
somehow – down there in the shoals
just a child... and he drowned there...
he drowned!
before he lived...
I can't go back there
I can't. I won't. I must.
my thoughts are twisting and I'm there, again.
my guts are twisting
I'm here again.
I feel him – staring
